We've Come 'Round Right!

Today has been full of inspiration for me. Not just because of the historic inauguration of our first black president, but also because of the music that has been around me today.

I've mentioned my Top 5 group before [you can read about them here].....well, today's Top 5 topic was: A day of hope. What Top 5 songs give you hope? I always enjoy the answers I get from our unique and diverse group, but today it all just made me happy and content.

Then, as I watched the inauguration and was listening to the arrangement by John Williams I was once again inspired by the music. His arrangement of Simple Gifts seemed so appropriate to me, but not just because of the historic day, but because of the life philosophy by which I try to live. [You can read about the Starlight Manifesto here]

I'm still processing today's events and I might have more to say about it later, but for now, I leave you with the wonderfully simple and appropriate words of Simple Gifts by Elder Joseph Brackett

'Tis the gift to be simple, 'tis the gift to be free,
'Tis the gift to come down where you ought to be,
And when we find ourselves in the place just right,
'Twill be in the valley of love and delight.
When true simplicity is gain'd,
To bow and to bend we shan't be asham'd,
To turn, turn will be our delight,
Till by turning, turning we come round right.

A song of hope from Casting Crowns:

What if the armies of the Lord
Picked up and dusted off their swords,
Vowed to set the captive free
And not let satan have one more?

What if the Church, for heaven's sake,
Finally stepped up to the plate,
Took a stand upon God's promise
And stormed hell's rusty gates?

And what would happen if we prayed
For those raised up to lead the way?
Then maybe kids in school could pray,
And unborn children see light of day.

What if the life that we pursue
Came from a hunger for the truth?
What if the family turned to Jesus,
Stopped asking Oprah what to do?

What if His people prayed,
And those who bear His name
Would humbly seek His face, yeah
And turn from their old ways?

He said that He would hear.
His promise has been made.
He'll answer loud and clear, yeah,
If only we would pray.

I am cautious about putting too much hope in man, for men may fail us. Our hope must be in the Lord, the solid Rock. He never changes. He is faithful. So I will pray.

"It is of the LORD's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. The LORD is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him."
Lamentations 3:22-24

But that arrangement of Simple Gifts was awesome!

Thanks for posting on the music. Back on the Mall it was hard to hear much of anything so I missed all of that stuff. I will have to google the vid.

And...don't suppose you tried to send the paper copy of yet or tried the online version of that g-d letter of recommendation? I have all but given up hope on the technology and one of my recommenders just did the paper copy they college received it. Anyway, the deadline for my completed apt is February 1st so if they don't get it by then, I am SOL. I don't know if that is enough time for a hard copy, but anything you could try in the last minute would be great. Maybe even try emailing as an attachment again.

Today was awesome. I was so happy to have been there. Check out my blog and facebook for pics (more picks on facebook)
